Pre and Post COVID-19 Travel Survey

What is Preand Post COVID-19 Travel Survey?

Pre and Post COVID-19 Travel Survey is a research project, led by Dr. Mahmudur Fatmi, a transportation professor at UBC – Okanagan. COVID-19 has significantly impacted our behaviour, from working-from-home to remote learning. This study will collect information regarding how COVID-19 has impacted respondents’ daily behaviour including work-from-home, remote learning, online shopping, transit usage, and socio-demographic characteristics. Respondents will be asked questions regarding their travel behaviour before COVID-19, immediately after the lockdown, currently, and post-pandemic.

Why should I participate in this survey?

COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted our travel behaviour, from a significant drop in transit usage to a substantial increase in work-from-home and remote learning. However, very little is known on how individuals’ travel behaviour have evolved at different stages of the pandemic, and whether there have been a longer-term shift in the behaviour that might sustain post the pandemic. This study will provide important insights towards how individuals’ behaviour have evolved at various stages of the pandemic. The findings will be useful to develop critical travel demand management policies such as work-from-home and remote learning strategies in a post-pandemic world.

Does this study only focuses on Okanagan, Canada?

This study is part of a larger research among The University of British Columbia – Canada, The University of Auckland – New Zealand, and Wayne State University – USA. This is critical to compare the behavioural changes across countries and continents, and learn from each other. As a result, this survey only focuses on the Okanagan region. However, similar surveys are conducted for Auckland, New Zealand and Detroit, USA. All data will be first coded, and then securely shared and integrated. The confidentiality of the data will be strictly maintained. Data sharing will be performed through institutional verified communication channels.
